International Circulation: We’re here with Doctor Mehran; Doctor， what are your thoughts about the long-term safety of sirolimus eluting stents compared with bare-metal stents?

Prof. Roxana Mehran: Well， so far based on the data that we have – and we now have at least five-year data from large randomized clinical trials – there donot  appear to be any safety issues whatsoever that concern me.  In fact， I feel that the sirolimus-eluting stent—the Cypher stent—is really the most durable one. We have the most information on that stent and on the paclitaxel-eluting Taxus stent. These are the first-generation of drug-eluting stents.  We have the luxury of having very long-term data on both the safety and efficacy of these stents.
